How fills work

When orders fill, what gaps do and the costs charged to every trade.

Fills are simulated from the bars on the chart, not from a live order book.

Resting orders

A limit or stop fills on the first bar that reaches its price. If a bar opens through the level, it fills at the open. A buy limit gets the better price and a stop gets the worse one, which is what a gap does to a real resting order.

Costs

Every simulated trade pays commission and slippage, because a frictionless test overstates an edge. Costs come off realized profit and loss as dollars. The recorded entry and exit prices stay the honest fill levels, so points show the gross move and profit and loss shows the net.

ItemDefault
Commission, micro contracts$0.50 per side
Commission, full-size contracts$2.00 per side
Slippage1 tick against you, each side
Stocks and FXNo per-contract commission, set by the instrument

A trade that wins by a tick or two before costs can close as a net loss. That is intended.

Position risk and R

When a position carries a stop, QuantLab records the dollar risk at entry. Results in R divide realized profit and loss by that risk. A trade taken without a stop has no recorded risk.
